SALABEAM is one of our BADABEAM games. In short, BADABEAM is a platform we built for projecting games and interactive art installations onto “intrinsic” surfaces, think buildings and walls with nice bumps, edges, and relief. BADABEAM includes a game-making framework, a live runtime level editor, and a custom network solution. Put together, this lets us quickly iterate on multiplayer game and art ideas and turn them into accessible projects for public space.
In SALABEAM, you control a tiny salamander in a projected garden. It’s a sandbox game where players make up their own rules. What we provide are hats, balls, and flies to snack on. Every time you eat a fly, your tail grows longer, but watch out: if another salamander walks through your tail, it gets chopped off and you’ll have to grow it all over again.
Players can jump in and control the game using their phone or one of the physical controllers.
